Driver: Richard Floyd

I have been a car and racing fanatic since before I can remember. When I was a child me dream was to someday be either a racecar driver or an astronaut. Since NASA (the other guys) haven't sent up any monkeys in a while, I figured I would have to resort to racing.

I learned about cars first when I bought a Triumph Spitfire. Over the next 10 years I learned everything I ever wanted to know about 40 year-old technology. But, eventually I wanted to move up and after college in 1996 I began autocrossing a 1990 Corvette 6-speed. Autocrossing was just what I needed - relatively low cost and I learned tons about car control. After a while I gathered the courage to enter a Corvette Club high speed solo event and I was hooked. All of my thought turned from rational things to how to make my car go faster and turn harder. The, tragedy struck. A friend of mine finished the roll cage in his Vette and went club racing in SPO and I realized that wheel-to-wheel was where I needed to be.

Road racing the Vette was a far too-expensive proposition. Since all 5 of my other cars since the Triumph had been Hondas, I set out to find a Honda or Acura to race. The 1st-generation Integra was the right car at the right time, for the right price. It took a little bit of work to get it ready to track use as it had been set up for autocross use but with a completed cage and other safety gear I took my driver's schools at Roebling Road. I then did my first wheel-to-wheel race at Road Atlanta a month later and scored a 3rd place finish in class in the tough Atlanta Region ProIT series. I've been addicted ever since.

When I first heard about the Honda Challenge series I knew there was nothing that could keep me away. It's been great to have the opportunity to meet other people who share the same enthusiasm I have for road racing and Hondas and Acuras. I want to thank all of those people whose hard work made this series a reality. I look forward to many more seasons in a series that I know will grow beyond anyone's expectations.
